I am 68, retired from nursing 3 years ago. I have lower back pain and have seen one physician after another who simply prescribed pain medications for me and nothing has worked. My wife has been seeing the doctors at Carolina Back Institute for several years with excellent results. When I began having back problems, my primary care doctor referred me to Dr. Godbout. He performed ablation on my lower back on the right side. The procedure was almost totally pain freeand when I got up after the ablation was done I had absolutely no pain on my right side and it has continued that way. My experience with Carolina Back Institute and Dr. Godbout, his associates and staff has been remarkable. I have seen tremendous recovery in my lower back, knees and legs - also astounding relief from pain in my hip. Most of this is done by injection - and while you can feel them, Dr. Godbout takes care to cause you the least pain possible and he succeeds in doing that. I have been a patient at the best facility in NC for several years. I came in several months ago with severe foot pain. During this visit a new treatment was discussed. At this time I was willing to try the last treatment. I couldn't bear any pressure pressed against the heel area. My first treatment I got relief. I was amazed. I could place my foot down flat and walk. I was pain free for the first time in almost 24 hours. Thereafter, a slow terrible pain returned. Throughout my series of treatments the pain has been tolerable. By the end of the treatment session, my pain level has decreased by 90%. On a recent visit to Carolina Back Institute Dr. Gwinn asked me about my leg and how long had it been swollen and I said about 2-3 weeks. He could have just treated me for the pain from spinal stenosis but said I needed to go to the hospital to see if I had a blood clot. I didn't, but was ready to have a heart attack because I was so full of fluid. I think Dr. Gwinn saved my life by putting my health before his fees. You don't have to see Dr. Michael Gwinn to get a great doctor, but if you get him you will have a person interested in your health and well-being. Prolotherapy administered by Dr. Duncan has worked wonders for me. Due to arthritis in both hips, I could barely walk and my orthopaedic surgeon told me the only cure would be to have a double hip replacement. I started seeing Dr. Duncan in June of last year. I had nine Prolotherapy injections (in the back) and for the first time in five years I am completely off narcotics. I have also had a total left knee replacement and was told that I would have to have the right knee replaced. I tried Prolotherapy injections in the right knee and it is now as good as the left. I now have a bulging disk (in the neck) with an accompanying headache. I tried two Prolotherapy injections and received noticeable improvement in my neck and headache. I damaged both shoulders from years of weightlifting. I had extensive surgery on my right shoulder and Prolotherapy on my left shoulder. I had four Prolo treatments on my left shoulder. After two years, the left (Prolo) shoulder is healed, but I am still having problems with my right shoulder despite extensive surgery. Obviously I recommend trying Prolotherapy before undergoing the cost and 6 months rehabilitation of the surgery.
