Carolina Back Institute has had NO patients diagnosed with fungus meningitis at either of the two facilities where physicians perform epidural steroid injections. The Physicians and staff take every necessary precaution to ensure patients are in a sterile environment. Methylprednisolone is the drug used in these tragic cases. Carolina Back uses a different steroid, betamethasone which is prepared by Triangle Compounding Pharmacy in Cary, NC. A patient in an UNIDENTIFIED NC clinic was recently diagnosed with meningitis. Carolina Back Institute is NOT that clinic. See International Spine Intervention Society Patient Safety News.
